We have returned from SpeechTek in London, where were treated to a plethora of information on speech and voice technology. The talk sessions covered both business applications and new technology. The highlight was definitely the talk given by Professor Wolfgang Wahlster, on the future of speech technology. A presentation of mind blowing technology, encompassing voice identification and spontaneous speech, applied to such uses as business meetings and the automotive industry. It would appear that we have stumbled into the future, and the future is now.
As Ovum states in a current research project: “…a recent spike in activity indicates that this [voice] technology is approaching a watershed. The barriers to adaption have certainly changed such that voice biometrics has the potential to significantly change the way in which enterprises authenticate their callers.”
