Travelling Transactions

Most of us have experienced, at one time or another, that awkward moment when your holiday takes an embarrassing turn in the form of a credit card transaction being declined. Your knowledge that funds on the card are plentiful makes no difference; the bank has blocked the transaction because it suspects it to be fraudulent. Although we are recommended to notify our bank of our travel plans, forgetfulness or laziness often means this doesn’t happen.

One thing we rarely forget when on holiday however, is our mobile phone. With number validation, banks can determine whether a number is roaming, helping them to assess the risk. Taking this one step further, banks can send an SMS to the mobile phone, asking the user with a simple YES/NO reply, whether the transaction was legitimate.

Number validation would certainly take the pain and guilt out of failing to notify banks before travel.
